Since Christmas I have been working on the piece I am writing for the Kensington Chamber Orchestra http://www.kco.org.uk as part of the Adopt a Composer Scheme.
Adopt a Composer is a scheme funded by the PRS Foundation for New Music and run by spnm (Society for Promotion of New Music) in association with Making Music. It pairs an amateur group with an spnm composer for a year. This gives the composer a chance to really get to know the group and work with them for an extended period, and the group get a new work especially written for them to premiere.

I have been working with the KCO since September and it has been a valuable and enjoyable experience so far. I have been very lucky, as the orchestra are open to exploring new music, and the first workshop in November (where I 'tried out' existing pieces of music on them!) proved extremely useful in giving me many ideas for the new piece . I have been very impressed with the standard of playing and am looking forward to the next workshop in February when I will try out what I have written so far.

I am aiming to write about 3-4 minutes of the work for the first workshop. The whole piece will be around 11 minutes long. The piece is called The Serious Side of Madness - more on that later...
